The North Olympic Peninsula has been red, white and blue, especially during the past year, area merchants agree.
And they expect a run this weekend as Wednesday’s first anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon is commemorated.
Sales of U.S. flags and other patriotic memorabilia have been strong especially since the Sept. 11 attacks for holidays such as Memorial Day and Independence Day.
“We have ordered three times as much this season as what we normally have in the past,” said Bert Paul, owner of Forks Thrifty Mart.
“It has been exciting to see patriotism back in our country. There has really been a resurgence of respect for the flag.”
