Stuff the Bus events set in Sequim, Port Angeles

School supply donation drives are gearing up in Sequim and Port Angeles.

Stuff the Bus, the annual school supplies donation drive, kicks off today in Sequim and Saturday in Port Angeles.

Donations for the Sequim School District can be made through Aug. 11 in bins at Sequim Community Church at 950 N. Fifth Ave., Walmart at 1110 W. Washington St., KSQM 91.5 FM Radio headquarters at 577 W. Washington St., Suite C, and JCPenney at 651 W. Washington St.

Monetary donations may be dropped off at the Sequim unit of the Boys &Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula at 400 W. Fir St.

The Sequim Stuff the Bus will culminate in an event from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 11, at the Walmart Supercenter at 1110 W. Washington St., Sequim. A school bus will be parked on site, with a school bus driver on hand to provide information about bus routes and school transportation. At the store’s entrance, shoppers can find a list of school supplies needed and can drop items they have purchased in collection bins at the store’s main entrance as they leave.

The Port Angeles School District will host Stuff the Bus from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of the Walmart Supercenter at 3411 Kolonels Way in Port Angeles. Look for a yellow school bus to make donations.

Donations also can be left at the Port Angeles School District Central Services Building, 216 Fourth St., across from the Clallam County Courthouse.

Back to School events

The Back to School Event for Port Angeles families in need will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19 at Jefferson Elementary, 218 E. 12th St.

School supplies will be provided free to students in kindergarten through 12th grades. Usually about 1,000 students are served, said Tina Smith-O’Hara, district spokeswoman.

Community organizations will have booths providing information about resources. Activities and a barbecue are planned.

In Sequim, the fifth annual Back to School Fair will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26 at the Sequim unit of the Boys &Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula.

School supplies will be made available to Sequim families in need. Resources and activities also are planned.

Sponsors are now being sought for the Sequim Back to School Fair. Sponsorship money is used primarily to purchase back packs and school supplies. Booth vendors for the fair are needed to offer activities, services and information. Volunteers for the day of the event are needed to help set up and facilitate activities.

For more information, call Janet Gray, Boys &Girls Clubs resource development director, at 360-683-8095.
