PORT ANGELES — Both lanes of U.S. Highway 101 are now open near Fisher Cove Road at Lake Crescent.
The highway had been reduced to a single lane with alternating traffic on Jan. 25 after heavy rains triggered erosion below the road.
Through an emergency contract, Feb. 1, Interwest Construction Inc. crews began clearing debris, stabilizing the hillside and repairing a damaged culvert.
The work was completed one week ahead of schedule, the state Department of Transportation said after it reopened both lanes at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
The repairs were needed after heavy rains eroded the hillside below the highway leading to erosion under the road.
State Highway 112 remains closed between mileposts 31 and 39 because of landslides. A detour is in place.
