PORT ANGELES — A two-story house burned to the ground in a spectacular Wednesday afternoon near Deer Park Road, sparing major injuries but displacing a family from its home.
Investigators will begin to sift through the rubble today to determine what might have caused the blaze.
“We don’t have any idea at all what caused it or what started it,” Clallam County Fire District No. 2 Deputy Chief Mike Oakes said Wednesday evening.
Clallam County Undersheriff Fred DeFrang said based on initial information — including a report of smoke in the area earlier in the day — the fire does not appear suspicious.
The house, at 175 Deer Run Lane, was engulfed in flames when fire district personnel responded just before 2 p.m.
No one was home at the time.
