Solar homes in Jefferson and Clallam counties will have open doors and invitations to the public to come in for a look Saturday.
Eleven sites will be available for public tours in Clallam County and 11 in Jefferson County from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The tour is self-guided, although docents will be available at some of the stops.
This year’s tour will feature “green” buildings, including those using solar electric, passive, hot water, and energy efficiency technologies.
They are installed in homes and buildings that exhibit net metering and off-grid systems and others using resource conservation measures.
Some sites will also feature alternative fueled and electric vehicles.
Washington joins 43 states and the District of Columbia in showcasing solar-power options during the 11th annual National Solar Tour.
Solar Washington, the Washington state chapter of the American Solar Energy Society, has organized sites statewide and can be found at www.solarwashington.org.
Kickoff points for the tours will have solar tour kits available.
In Clallam County, the kickoff point is the Clallam County Public Utility District, 83 Idea Place, in Sequim.
Jefferson County’s tour kickoff point will be Wildberry Farm, 2343 Thomas St., Port Townsend.
Some locations are for driving by to look only. They will have no one on site to describe the system.
