BRINNON — Schools in Brinnon and Quilcene delayed classes by two hours Thursday because of snow.
A late winter storm Thursday morning left 3 to 4 inches of snow in the Coyle area and outlying areas of Brinnon. By the afternoon, roads were clear and wet.
Brinnon District Superintendent Tricia Beathard said the storm showed “strange snow patterns.”
“In the mountain areas, we had 1 to 2 inches, but downtown there was 3 to 4 inches measured.” Beathard said. “We are just trying to be safe with 40 kids on a bus.”
Meteorologist Chris Burke of the National Weather Service in Seattle said during the past five weeks the Puget Sound lowlands have experienced more snow than usual and snow has been more of a widespread event.
“The Hood Canal area is looking at isolated scattered showers through the weekend,” Burke said.
He cautioned the precipitation could include flurries but no significant accumulations were forecast.
