Small quake centered near Brinnon rattles area; no damage reported

BRINNON — A small, 3.7-magnitude earthquake rattled the Brinnon area along Hood Canal early Sunday, waking up some residents but causing no damage.

The quake hit at about 5:19 a.m., according to the Pacific Northwest Seismograph Network, centered 12 miles west-northwest of Brinnon 26 miles below the eastern flanks of the Olympic Mountains.

Some residents said the quake woke them up and rattled wall hangings.

The shaking was also felt in Silverdale, 10 miles east of Brinnon, and in the Quilcene area, north of Brinnon and about 16 miles west-southwest of the quake’s epicenter.

It was the second minor quake to hit the Puget Sound region over the weekend. The Carnation area, 20 miles east of Seattle, experienced a 3.4-magnitude quake on Saturday.
