Singer to jazz it up at Peninsula College

PORT ANGELES — Dallas-based singer Julie Mondanaro, known for her interpretations of French jazz, is coming to Peninsula College this week for two free public events.

Tonight in the college’s Maier Performance Hall, Mondanaro and her husband, pianist David Williams, will conduct a clinic with the Peninsula College Vocal Jazz group. The public is welcome to observe the 7 p.m. clinic.

The music moves to the Little Theater on Tuesday night as Mondanaro, Williams and the Vocal Jazz ensemble give a free “Summer Solo” concert together at 7 p.m.

Mondanaro will sing several French songs, including “Il ne Faut pas Briser un Reve,” while Williams accompanies her on piano.

The Vocal Jazz singers, a group that drew a full house to their debut performance in June, will offer standards such as “Mack the Knife,” “Orange Colored Sky,” “St. Louis Blues,” “Stormy Monday,” “Take Love Easy” and “You’ve Got to Hurt Before You Heal.”

“Fly Me To the Moon,” “Fever” and “Choo Choo Ch’Boogie” are also on the set list.

Vocal Jazz performers include Gabe Bagno, Bunny Cornwall, Tara Dupont, Judith Sinclair, Marissa Wilson, Rachel Heath, Brandi Larson, Tyler Napiontek, Josette Hodge and Teresa Pierce. Drummer Terry Smith, pianist George Lindamood and bass man Clint Thomas will play with the ensemble.

Both Maier Performance Hall and the Little Theater are on the main campus at 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.
