PORT HADLOCK — A registered level 3 sex offender who has served his time will live in East Jefferson County, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Christopher Dee Gaylord, 21, was released from custody in Kitsap County and requested relocation to Jefferson County because he could not find employment, Detective Barb Garrett said.
Gaylord is homeless and has ties to Port Townsend and Port Hadlock, Garrett said.
He is required to check in at the Sheriff’s Office weekly and report his activities. If he fails to report in, a warrant will be issued immediately.
Gaylord has been classified as a level 3 offender, meaning he is considered to be likely to commit the crime again.
He was convicted of one count of communicating with a minor for immoral purposes in 2001 and two counts of first-degree child molestation in 2004.
Gaylord is described as Caucasian with black hair and brown eyes, standing 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing 175 pounds.
Garrett said that Gaylord will be required to check in for life.
The Sheriff’s Office said in a written statement that Gaylord has served the sentence imposed by the courts and is not wanted by law enforcement at this time.
“This notice is not intended to arouse fear,” the statement said. “Rather, it is our belief that an informed public is a safe public.”
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office currently tracks about 71 sex offenders, and publishes the names and photographs of level 2 and level 3 offenders.
