SEQUIM — An event to honor local first responders, the annual Unity of Effort returns to Sequim on Saturday.
Security Services Northwest will host the event from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the company headquarters, 250 Center Park Way.
A free, family-friendly event open to the public, Unity of Effort features a variety of federal, state and local civilian businesses and organization, law enforcement, emergency medical, search and rescue and military units.
Popular events such as the bucket brigade competition, straw pile toy find and bounce house for children, and live music (Stardust Big Band and Hairstorm, a 1980s tribute band) all return for the 2019 event.
Also featured are a number of displays, vendor booths and show-and-tell exhibits. Fort Discovery Corporation sponsors a target shooting contest using a “virtual” shooting simulator.
A recent addition to festivities is Bloodworks Northwest of Silverdale, which will send a bloodmobile to the Unity of Effort.
The bloodmobile will accept donations from 10 a.m. to noon and from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome around scheduled appointments, and donations go to hospitals such as Olympic Medical Center, Seattle Children’s Hospital and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.
A field next to the SSNW Headquarters has been secured for a helicopter landing zone. Medical airlift helicopters are expected and possibly a U.S. Army helicopter, organizers say.
Security Services Northwest Inc., provides armed and unarmed security services, alarm installation and monitoring, video security installation and remote monitoring, telephone answering and dispatch services and maritime security in Washington, Alaska, Oregon and California.
