SEQUIM — A Lost Mountain vacation home has been destroyed in a fire.
The home at 1793 Lost Mountain Road was unoccupied when the fire was reported at 12:33 p.m. Friday.
Clallam County Fire District No. 3 spokesman Patrick Young said the home and its contents were a total loss.
It was not immediately known whether the fire was caused by the lighting storms that rolled across the North Olympic Peninsula early Friday morning.
“Fire investigators will begin the daunting task of determining the cause of the fire after all the hot spots have cooled down,” Young said in a statement.
“This investigative process may take several days or longer to complete,” he added.
“It is too early to determine if the weather played into the cause of this fire.”
The unidentified owner lives in the Sacramento, Calif., area, Young said, adding that it was unclear whether the home was insured or how much it was worth.
Lost Mountain Road was closed to traffic for nearly two hours to allow emergency equipment to make the round trip with water, which was shuttled in by tenders.
The road eventually opened, at first to one lane.
Clallam County Fire District No. 3 had 15 firefighters on the scene with 10 pieces of equipment.
The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, Olympic Ambulance and Clallam County Public Utility District provided assistance, Young said.
