Sequim to host series of planning workshops

SEQUIM — The city of Sequim will conduct three workshops on its comprehensive plan June 11-13.

The workshops, which will be at the Guy Cole Event Center, 144 N. Blake Ave., are designed to explore options for Sequim’s future, refine planning goals and develop creative solutions.

The workshops will include city staff and the consultant team; members of the public are welcome at any time.

The June 11 session, “Vision,” will review the current plan’s vision for the future and consider ways to improve it.

During the informal studio session, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., attendees can speak with consultants and staff, explore displays and maps, share ideas and feedback and participate in a questionnaire.

At 6 p.m., staff and consultants will make a formal presentation on vision, followed by a workshop to assess the vision and refine the goals from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The June 12 session, “Planning and Transportation,” will begin with an informal studio session from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with the transportation consultant.

There will be a formal presentation regarding transportation planning at 6 p.m. followed by an open house from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. to discuss transportation priorities and recommendations.

On June 13, “Planning Scenarios” will be the main focus.

The studio session, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. will help refine scenarios and alternatives for the evening workshop.

The formal presentation, at 6 p.m., will set the stage for the evening scenario workshop, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., where participants will consider different thematic approaches toward achieving the vision established during the June 11 Vision workshop.

Under the state’s Growth Management Act, every county and city in the state is required to review and, if needed, update its comprehensive plan every 10 years.

The 20-year land-use plans cover housing, zoning, capital facilities, protection of surface and groundwater, agriculture, commercial development and transportation.

Under the schedule in RCW 36.70A.040, Clallam, Clark, Island, Jefferson, Lewis, Mason, San Juan, Skagit, Thurston and Whatcom counties, along with the cities in them, must update their comprehensive plans between June 30, 2025, and December 31, 2025.
