SEQUIM — The Sequim Village Center is undergoing more than $500,000 worth of updates and renovations aimed at keeping the center attractive to shoppers and tenants as new development explodes in the city.
“We felt for some time that the shopping center — having been built in the early “80s — looked kind of tired,” said property manager Steve Smith of Sun Valley Realty.
“We wanted to give it some eye appeal to get the traffic in here and keep up with what’s going on is Sequim.”
The center, owned by McNish Family Trust, started out as one building and now boasts 24 shops in 100,000 square feet of space, all on 13 acres at the corner of West Washington and Seventh Avenue.
The shopping plaza is anchored by J.C. Penney Co. Inc. The occupancy rate is 100 percent right now, Smith said, and while some leases are set to expire, he doesn’t expect to have a lot of vacant space anytime soon.
“If nothing else had been happening, we still would’ve been looking at doing a face lift . . . but with all that’s happening, we felt we wanted to keep up the progress,” he said.
‘Bold, vibrant’ colors
In a written statement, architect Kenneth Hays said the change will be dramatic.
“The colors being used are bold and vibrant,” he said.
