SEQUIM — School Board member Suzi Schmidt resigned Monday night in a letter read during a board meeting, citing her failure to accomplish “goals and expectations for myself as a School Board director.”
The resignation took effect immediately.
The remaining board members can appoint someone to serve on an interim basis until a new director can be elected in November.
The board accepted Schmidt’s resignation without comment.
In an interview Monday night, Schmidt declined to discuss the specific reasons for her action, but said that it’s “better for the board” for her to step aside now rather than serve out her term.
“I don’t want to go into much detail,” she said. “That would be too personal and I just can’t do that right now.
“As in any elected office, it’s a political thing. I’m not angry at anybody. It’s just my decision and it’s time to move on.”
She insisted she wasn’t trying to be “mysterious.”
“The No. 1 thing for me is we need community involvement, and I’ll let it go at that,” she said.
Goals and expectations
Schmidt also declined to answer when asked if her goals and expectations clashed with those of other school leaders.
“I really can’t say,” she said.
“I never spoke with them about what their goals and objectives are. I can only speak for myself.”
