SEQUIM — The Planning Commission recommended Tuesday that the City Council rezone 21 acres of property from one commercial zone to another.
If approved by the City Council, the rezoning will give owner Burrowes Properties LLC 72 acres of land in the CIII zone, which allows regional shopping centers.
The Burrowes property runs north and east from the east side of the Sequim Avenue interchange with U.S. Highway 101.
The City Council has scheduled a public hearing on the proposed rezoning at 7 p.m. Monday in the Sequim Community Center, 190 W. Cedar St.
More than 50 people turned out for Tuesday’s Planning Commission meeting, and many were upset of the idea of a regional shopping center being built away from the Washington Street business corridor.
