SEQUIM — A regional shopping center in Sequim has been a subject of rumors for years.
Talk was ignited again recently when a Sequim family, working with a Seattle-area developer under the name Bell Homestead LLC, asked to rezone 21 acres of property near Brown Road from one commercial zoning to another.
If approved, Bell Homestead would have slightly more than 72 acres zoned for regional shopping at U.S. Highway 101, the first off-ramp west of Washington Street/Simdars Road, where separate developers filed plans Thursday for Sequim Town Center.
One of the largest audiences in Sequim’s history turned out for a public hearing on the Bell Homestead LLC rezoning request Aug. 26.
The majority of those testifying opposed regional shopping in Sequim, saying it would destroy the small-town image.
The council will discuss the rezoning request when it meets Monday night.
Public testimony will not be taken during the session.
The City Council meets at 7 p.m. in the Sequim Community Center, 190 W. Cedar St.
