SEQUIM — A local church will offer daylong vigils today and Friday for residents praying for the victims of the terrorist attacks Tuesday in New York City and Washington, D.C.
“People can silently offer their prayers all day long,” St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Secretary Kathy Withey said Wednesday. “There are a lot of people praying for peace, wanting to keep things calm right now.”
The vigils will last from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day at the church, 121 E. Maple St., she said, noting more than 250 people attended the church’s “Mass for Peace” on Tuesday night.
Special services were also held Tuesday at St. Luke Episcopal Church and Wednesday at Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church.
Religious leaders said the vigils are needed to help many in the community who have friends and loved ones in New York City.
