Sequim: Port, public examine future of John Wayne Marina

SEQUIM — John Wayne Marina is moving into the spotlight as the staff at the Port of Port Angeles determines its future.

The Port owns the marina on Sequim Bay, which was named for the late movie star who donated the property.

Future uses of the main building at the marina, installing individual electric meters at each boat slip and connecting to Sequim’s sewage system were all on the agenda Monday afternoon during a Port commission meeting at the marina.

About 75 people attended after touring the marina with elected commissioners and appointed staff. Most visitors were there to talk about building use, although the idea of adding meters for electricity drew a number of comments from the audience.

The topics for Monday’s meeting grew from the work of two citizen advisory committees.

Marina manager Jeff Robb, who represented the Port on both citizen committees, said there were no specific recommendations — only a wish to look at best using the marina facilities.
