SEQUIM — The Police Department wants city residents to fill out a survey aimed at finding out how people perceive crime in the area and what police should focus on as the community and the police force grow.
The input will be used as the department plans for the next few years. Coming up with such a plan was one of the goals city leaders developed at a recent planning session, said Police Chief Robert Spinks.
“We’re calling this the 2011 policing plan, and it’s really designed to give us a living course to follow for the next five years,” Spinks said.
“It can’t be the Bob Spinks policing plan. It can’t be the Sequim police plan. It’s really got to be the community’s plan.”
The survey asks whether citizens think crime has increased or decreased in the past year, and whether people have changed their behavior because of crime concerns.
One section attempts to measure how concerned residents are about various types of crime, from burglary to loitering to illegal parking.
The survey also seeks feedback on how people feel about the department and what programs police should focus on in the future.
THE SEQUIM POLICE Department survey is available on the city of Sequim’s Web site at www.ci.sequim.wa.us/police/SurveysAndComments.cfm.
The first round of surveys will be collected and analyzed within the next eight weeks.
