SEQUIM — Belly dancers and Billy Bob’s BBQ flavored the gathering last year.
But this year, downtown merchants, more musicians and local cooks could make Sequim’s Open Aire Market even better, manager Mark Ozias says.
“We’d like the market to be a vibrant partner to downtown,” he said, adding that he hopes to mix in “more interactive experiences, with something new every week.”
The Open Aire Market, begun in summer 1995, will return this summer to Cedar Street between Seal and Second Avenue every Saturday from May 20 to Oct. 14.
A meeting for prospective vendors is set for 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Sequim High School cafeteria, 601 N. Sequim Ave.
Downtown business people can call Ozias’ office at 360-683-0164 to talk about products they might demonstrate or presentations they might give at the market.
Keeping people downtown
“We’re there from 9 to 3, and we want to keep people downtown,” added Susan Molin, a new market board member.
“We want to take it to a more exciting market, and we want to develop a food court.”
Not the same old shopping-mall food court, mind you. Everything sold at the market must be grown or made in or near Sequim.
“There’s so much building going on here; a farmers market is a way to remember our roots,” Molin said.
