SEQUIM — A Nobel Prize winner will be the keynote speaker for a black-tie benefit hosted by Olympic Medical Center’s foundation for a $5 million cancer care center being built in Sequim.
Dr. Leland H. Hartwell, who won the 2001 Nobel Prize in physiology or medicine, will headline the gala Oct. 12, Olympic officials said.
Hartwell is president and director of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle. He is also a professor of genetics at the University of Washington.
“We are thrilled that Dr. Hartwell has accepted our invitation,” said Olympic Medical Center Administrator Mike Glenn.
“To have a Nobel laureate and one of the world’s leading cancer researchers as a keynote speaker in our community is truly exciting.”
