Though still in a neck brace from injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash last month, Sequim Mayor Walt Schubert on Monday returned to his duties presiding over City Council meetings.
In remarks acknowledging his return, Schubert thanked his wife and family as well as the community at large, which he said responded overwhelmingly after the wreck.
“I would not want to repeat the experience, but in a way I”m glad I had the experience,” he said. “I never would have seen this.”
Schubert suffered neck and pelvis injuries when he missed a turn on state Highway 112 near Clallam Bay and wrecked his Harley-Davidson. He repeated his doctors’ assurances Monday that he would recover fully.
“I’ve been accused of being to the right, politically,” he said. “I did not intend to be so far right of center that I went off the road.”
