SEQUIM — Enrollment figures at all five public schools appear healthy as the 2003-04 school year enters its second week.
That’s good news for Sequim School District Superintendent Garn Christensen, who in August was faced with having to build an annual operating budget based on projected attendance.
In keeping with demographic trends, Christensen estimated low, anticipating a decline in enrollment during the next three years.
The School Board adopted a $19.1 million 2003-04 operating budget based on the projected declines.
But Christensen warned that initial counts taken in the fall can change as the year progresses and students transfer out of the district or change to alternative schooling arrangements.
Still, he said, the more students, the better.
“It looks like we’re consistent with our expectations,” Christensen said Monday.
