Sequim: Grant applicants sought

SEQUIM — The city of Sequim is seeking applicants for a state grant that could provide up to $750,000 for projects that benefit low- and moderate-income people.

A series of public hearings are being held to receive comments on proposed activities that would receive funding under the state Community Development Block Grant.

The CDBG funds are available on a statewide competitive basic to fund public facility, housing, economic development, or community projects that principally benefit low- and moderate-income people, Sequim Planning Director Richard Hendricksen said.

Hendricksen said the city has not acquired any grant money from the program in recent years.

“We need to go back after these,” he said.

Hendricksen said possible projects could include:

* Expansion of the Sequim Senior Center

* Sequim Community Center Improvements

* Expanding the parking lot for the Head Start facility in Sequim

* Sidewalk improvements in selected neighborhoods
