SEQUIM — Non-city residents who dump garbage in trash containers inside city limits will face fines of as much as $1,000 and 30 days in jail after City Council action Wednesday.
Previously, the fine for illegal dumping was $100, but council members agreed on the higher rate as a way to combat the problem.
“We need to send a message that we’re not going to put up with it anymore,” Mayor Walt Schubert said.
