SEQUIM — School buildings in Sequim and across the state are shuttered, but several local students can still expect a boost from the Sequim Education Foundation.
The application review process for the foundation’s annual student scholarship program is underway, and selected students can expect to be notified by the end of the month.
Twelve students submitted applications this year, Sequim Education Foundation (SEF) representatives said.
Foundation board members meet online regularly, SEF executive director Merissa Koller Williams said.
“We usually involve community members and contributing organizations in our decision-making processes, but our current reality makes that extremely difficult and nearly impossible,” she said.
“Our board members are deeply engaged in the community. So we’ve adapted our processes, just as so many in our community have had to do.”
SEF also has extended the teaching grant application deadline to June 1 to “allow teachers more time to adjust to their online classrooms and be creative about the future of academics in our community.”
Teaching grant applications can be found at www.sequimeducationfoundation.org and can be submitted via email to sequimeducationfoundation@gmail.com.
