Protection and restoration of the Dungeness River is necessary for salmon recovery, a new private study says.
The national nonprofit conservation group Trust for Public Land released the study identifying 10 Western Washington rivers critical for salmon protection.
The Dungeness River, which flows from the Olympic Mountains north to the Strait of Juan de Fuca, is ranked ninth on the list.
“Without protection or restoration actions to safeguard these areas it may not be possible to save the salmon,” the study says.
But that may be too high of a ranking for a humble little river.
