SEQUIM — As teen-agers growing up in Sequim in the mid-’60s, Dave and Jill (McDaniel) Blake used to join friends in cruising in their cars between the restaurant that is now Gwennie’s and Fifth Avenue.
On May 11 the Blakes will take another cruise along Washington Street — as grand marshals of the 107th Irrigation Festival.
Jill Blake has experience riding in the Irrigation Festival.
In 1996 she was the festival’s queen.
“I still know the royalty wave,” she said with a laugh during an interview Monday afternoon.
Recently she served as chairwoman of the luncheon honoring past royalty.
The Blakes graduated from Sequim High School in 1966, although they weren’t high school sweethearts.
“We did a lot of things in groups together, but we didn’t date,” Jill Blake said.
