SEQUIM –– The Sequim City Council is continuing its marijuana moratorium.
Seven people spoke during a Monday night hearing. All asked for a repeal on the moratorium, but City Council members voted 4-1 to extend the moratorium instituted in February for another six months.
Citing fears of violating federal laws against pot, the City Council had reaffirmed in March to keep the moratorium on recreational marijuana shops and to put off a decision on proposed zoning that would limit the one pot shop the state has allocated to Sequim to the city’s heavy commercial districts.
Councilwoman Genaveve Starr, who said during the council meeting that she has smoked marijuana, cast the lone dissenting vote.
Council members Laura Dubois and Ken Hays were absent from Monday’s meeting.
