SEQUIM — Martin Luther King Jr. wasn’t focused only on African Americans as he led the civil rights movement in the 1960s.
“Civil rights is not only about black people, it’s about everybody,” said Charles Jones of Sequim during a speech at a flag-raising ceremony at Port Williams on Monday.
Jones, 72, is a retired Central Seattle College economics instructor who has lived in Sequim since 1989.
“He is the hero of my generation,” Jones said of King as a group of 15 people braved an icy breeze off the Strait of Juan de Fuca to honor civil rights leader’s memory.
“I can’t forget him.”
