Sequim businessman not guilty of assault, hit-and-run

PORT ANGELES — James McCauley of Sequim was found not guilty of second-degree assault and hit-and-run on Wednesday.

McCauley, 60, had been accused of fleeing the scene after hitting Sierra Swarm, 32, at the intersection of First and Peabody streets in Port Angeles in a Volkswagen Jetta last October.

He was exonerated by 12 jurors after a two-day trial in Clallam County Superior Court.

A misdemeanor charge against McCauley’s wife, Pat McCauley, 56, for making false or misleading statements to police after the incident was dismissed without prejudice on Jan. 12.

Swarm was treated for cuts and bruises at Olympic Medical Center and released the same day.

The McCauleys have together owned the InsideOut marketing firm for 15 years. They have lived in the Sequim-Dungeness Valley for more than 26 years.

Pat McCauley is a former tourism coordinator for the cities of Sequim and Port Townsend.
