PORT ANGELES — Veteran Master Gardener Muriel Nesbitt will discuss how to save, store and trade seeds at noon Thursday, July 13.
The hour-long presentation in the county commissioners meeting room (Room 160) in the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., is part of the Green Thumb Garden Tips education series sponsored by the WSU Clallam County Master Gardeners.
Nesbitt will discuss the importance of regeneration of heirloom varieties on biodiversity. She will provide information on what seed to start if a home gardener wants to save seeds, how to design a garden for seed saving and how to store seeds to keep them viable.
She also will provide resources for exchanging seeds.
Nesbitt, who earned a doctorate in genetics from the University of Washington, retired from teaching biology at the University of California San Diego.
She directed the Clallam County Master Gardener program from 2009 to 2012. She is a frequent speaker on sustainable growing and instructor for the Master Gardener intern training.
A lecture on beneficial insects, originally scheduled for this date, has been moved to Oct. 26.
The Master Gardener Green Thumb Garden Tips education series continues on the second and fourth Thursday of each month.
