SEQUIM — A memorial service for Arlene Engel will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 382 W. Cedar St., Sequim.
Engel, 91, was an Olympic Medical Center commissioner and a longtime advocate for heath care access and mental heath services.
She died of a stroke Christmas Day.
The longtime Sequim resident had been an OMC commissioner since 2002.
Engel was also a board member and past president of the Clallam County chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
She served on a number of advisory committees for mental health, hospice care, home health and health care access.
After moving to Sequim in 1970, Engel and her husband, Paul Engel, helped develop Dominion Terrace, Sequim’s first retirement community.
Arlene Engel received the Clallam County Citizen of the Year award in 1992.
In 2009, she was awarded the Clallam County Lifetime Achievement Award and the Red Cross Hero Award.
