PORT TOWNSEND — A rubber duck race to raise money for student athletics in Port Townsend will be held June 4.

The rubber ducks will be released in the bay next to the Port Townsend Marine Science Center in Fort Worden State Park at 11 a.m. June 4.
The first duck washed ashore by the waves will be the winner, and the ticket holder will get $2,500.
There are prizes for holders of tickets on other top-finishing ducks, including $1,000 cash from 7 Cedars Casino, travel packages to Harrison Hot Springs Resort and Spa and Circus Circus in Reno, Nev., Mariners baseball tickets and two $150 gift certificates from Swain’s Outdoor.
The duck derby is being sponsored by Save Our Sports, a volunteeer group of parents and students. Its goal is to raise $18,000.
The Port Townsend School District is facing a budget shortfall that could, if not filled, restrict or eliminate some sports programs at Blue Heron Middle School and Port Townsend High School.
