Rollover blocks highway exit for seven hours

No one injured in single-vehicle wreck on shoulder

PORT ANGELES — The exit from U.S. Highway 101 to state Highway 117 was blocked for seven hours by a log truck that overturned as it failed to negotiate a curve.

The driver, Richard T. Nordberg, 34, of Sequim, was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured in the 9:20 a.m. rollover, according to the State Patrol.

He was cited for driving too fast for conditions.

Nordberg was driving his rig east on U.S. Highway 101 when he turned left onto Highway 117.

He lost control of the vehicle on a curve to the left. It rolled over onto its passenger side and came to a rest in the roadway on its side.

No other vehicles were involved.

The logs rolled into a ditch along the roadway.

At 4:17 p.m., the state Department of Transportation reported that state crews and Clallam County Public Utility District crews had finished clearing the road and that it was back open.

The State Patrol said that no drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.

The truck and the trailer both had reportable damage, troopers said.
