PORT ANGELES – Judith Morris has replaced Mary Schuneman as U.S. Rep. Norm Dicks’ aide on the North Olympic Peninsula.
Dicks, D-Belfair, named Morris to the post Wednesday.
She starts work in Dicks’ Port Angeles office today.
Morris, who has lived on the Peninsula since 1994, headed the Healthy Communities program at United Way of Clallam County from 1998 to 2003.
For the past three years, she has worked at the U.S. Embassy in Lusaka, Zambia, helping Americans on its staff live and work in the southern African country.
She is a former Peace Corps volunteer who holds a bachelor’s degree from Sonoma State University and a master’s degree from the University of Denver.
Morris will staff the office at 332 E. Fifth St. and represent him at community events in Clallam and Jefferson counties.
“This is a pivotal position, allowing people to obtain information and assistance from federal agencies,” said Dicks, “and allowing me to have a more immediate link to the people and the issues that are important in the Clallam and Jefferson area.
“I have appreciated the connections that Mary Schuneman has made for me in the community, and I am delighted that Judith has agreed to serve as my liaison to the North Olympic Peninsula.”
Schuneman, Dicks said, will move out of the area this summer.
Morris was a member of the board of the Juan de Fuca Festival of the Arts. She also served on the Clallam County Literacy Council.
Her husband, David, was superintendent of Olympic National Park from November 1994 to January 2003, when he resigned to direct the Peace Corps in Zambia.
The office is open from 9 a.m. to noon Mondays, from 2 to 4:45 p.m. Thursday, and by appointment.
On July 2, its hours will change to 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays, as well as by appointment.
