Race develops for Joyce fire district; two other positions find candidates

PORT ANGELES — The extended filing period for candidates for Clallam County elected offices produced a three-person race for Fire Protection District 4 in Joyce.

Thomas Lee, Kay Buck and Cindy Bryant filed Tuesday for the Position 4 vacancy created by the resignation of Mel Wilson.

In addition, Daniel Kauffman filed for Black Diamond Water District commissioner, District 1, and Vonnie Messerschmidt filed for Quillayute Valley Parks and Recreation Commission, Position 2.

The extended period for positions that had no candidates by the close of the regular period last Friday will remain open until 4:30 p.m. today at the Auditor’s Office in the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

The other position that failed to draw candidates during last week’s filing period was Position 1 on the Forks City Council.

If no candidates file for this position by today, the position will be closed, will not be on the Nov. 8 general election ballot and will be filled by the incumbent until he or she submits a letter of resignation.

The position will reopen for filing in 2007.

For more information on filing for office, call 360-417-2217.
