CENTER — This isn’t what comes to mind when you think about paint on an overpass.
An art class from Quilcene High School is crafting a colorful mural on the state Highway 104 overpass at Center Road.
It’s far from graffiti.
Taking form on the concrete bridge are two bears, some trees, mountains and a blue sky.
State officials won’t be breaking out turpentine to clean off the handiwork — they approved it.
The art, titled “Western Washington View,” will welcome visitors traveling south on Center Road to the communities of Quilcene and Brinnon.
The students plan to put the finishing touches on the mural throughout this week.
Although the state approved the project on the overpass, art instructor Jim Seeley did forget to tell the sheriff’s office.
A concerned citizen called 9-1-1 after spotting Seeley and friend Joann Goodspeed painting a white primer on the concrete last week.
