QUILCENE — Murder suspect Robert H. Froehlich will be evaluated by mental health experts to determine if he is competent to stand trial for the 1992 slaying of Allison Tornensis.
Friday’s ruling by Jefferson County Superior Court Judge Tom Majhan in Port Townsend came during hearing on a motion by Froehlich’s attorney, Gerald Barnhart of Port Townsend.
Barnhart believes there are “substantial questions” regarding Froehlich’s competency to stand trial, based on personal contact with his client and psychiatric reports.
Majhan ordered Froehlich remanded to state Department of Social and Health Services for a maximum of 15 days for observation, after which a medical report will be presented to the court.
