CHIMACUM — State Highways 19 and 20 in East Jefferson County had 411 crashes in four years, said a traffic analysis released at the first of several public forums on possible safety measures for the highway corridor.
One fatal collision took place during the study period, from 2003 and 2006, the state Department of Transportation said, with 15 collisions considered serious and the majority causing vehicular damage only.
The analysis, which was released at a public forum in Chimacum on Thursday, also said that those stretches of Highway 19 and 20 have fewer crashes than similar highways in the state.
The forum at Chimacum Creek Primary School was the first of several scheduled over the next 18 months to launch an effort to develop a state Highway 19 and 20 corridor plan.
The two roads lead from U.S. Highway 101 and state Highway 104 to the Port Townsend ferry terminal in Port Townsend.
