PORT ANGELES — A smoking motor on the roof of Hamilton Elementary School prompted Port Angeles firefighters to respond, but there were no flames, and damage was minor.
Dispatch received a 9-1-1 call at about 3 p.m. Saturday that smoke could be seen coming from the roof of the school. Firefighters from the Port Angeles Fire Department responded and found that an air handler on the roof of the school had overheated and was smoking, assistant chief Michael Sanders said.
There was no fire, and the power to the school was shut off to cut power to the motor, Sanders said.
School maintenance workers cleared smoke from the inside the school, he added.
Sanders said the damage was limited to the motor.
