PORT TOWNSEND — If it’s wooden and travels the high seas or bays, visitors can find it at the 27th annual Wooden Boat Festival this weekend.
The event is based at Point Hudson at the north end of the waterfront.
The event started Thursday and continues through today with a variety of classes where veteran seamen and seawomen shared their knowledge and anecdotes.
Hundreds of crafts, of every style and price, flooded into Port Townsend Bay and will remain there through this afternoon when the festival ends.
Many of the vessels have opened their gang planks welcoming visitors, and people trying to buy a boat or ship could find many price tags to look at.
The event is sponsored by the Wooden Boat Foundation which raises funds for educational programs for youth and adults.
Today’s activities begin at 9:30 a.m. One of the highlights is the Festival Sail-by on Port Townsend Bay. The skipper’s meeting begins at 2 p.m., with the starting time to be determined.
