CHIMACUM — A Port Townsend woman was treated and discharged from Jefferson Healthcare hospital after a two-car wreck Friday morning on state Highway 19 about a mile south of Chimacum.
Makayla B. Such, 18, was injured after the 1997 Honda Civic she was riding in, driven by Michael J. Pate, 20, of Port Townsend, was struck from behind by a 2004 Toyota Celica coupe driven by William K. Butterfield, 22, of Quilcene at 10:27 a.m., the State Patrol said.
The State Patrol, which listed the cause of the wreck as unsafe passing, gave this account of the crash:
Both cars were headed south on Highway 19 when Butterfield honked at Pate to let him know Pate’s trunk was unsecured.
Pate signaled to turn left into a driveway. Butterfield tried to pass him on the left and struck the Honda in the right rear quarter panel.
The Honda came to rest in a ditch on the northbound side of the road.
Butterfield was uninjured, Pate was treated at the scene and Such was taken by ambulance to Jefferson Healthcare hospital, the State Patrol said.
A hospital spokeswoman said Friday afternoon that Such had been discharged.
