PORT TOWNSEND — Three properties within the town’s historic district are undergoing a city government review to see if owners will be permitted to demolish all or part of them.
Owners have filed demolition permits for an addition on the rear of the building at 535 Fillmore St., for complete demolition of a home at 308 Fillmore St., and for complete demolition of a building on Hudson Place that once was the Tyee Saloon.
None of the homes are historical landmarks in themselves, but they are within the National Historic Landmark District – a section of the city roughly bounded by Scott, Blaine, Walker, and Taft streets, and the Waterfront.
The State Environmental Policy Act requires a building that has historical significance to undergo a review by government officials to determine if the demolition may or may not occur, said John McDonagh, city planner.
