A team from Port Townsend High School took third place Sunday from among 20 from high schools throughout Washington at the 2005 statewide YMCA Youth and Government Mock Trial Program competition in Olympia.
The three-day, four-round competition had students arguing the prosecution and defense sides of a fictitious murder trial — State of Washington v. Whislea Dwight — in which a magician is put on trial for the five-year-old unsolved slaying of a street performer.
More than 30 judges and 120 attorneys statewide volunteered to judge and assist with the event.
