PORT TOWNSEND — Santa Claus traditionally is seen as a figure who sits comfortably in an sleigh pulled by eight flying reindeer.
But nobody seemed to question the jolly elf’s appearance in Port Townsend by way of a fishing trawler Saturday evening.
If the delight on children’s faces was any indication, Santa can show up however he chooses, as long as he turns an ear to hear their gift requests.
Union Wharf was packed with excited children — many with parents in tow — as the fishing vessel Cape Flattery pulled alongside Saturday and unloaded its passenger from the North Pole.
Kris Kringle’s celebrity status was apparent as children mobbed him on his way to an awaiting carriage at the foot of Union Wharf.
