PORT TOWNSEND — Efforts are quickly under way to heal a rift between the city and Port of Port Townsend that grew out of a shipbuilder’s rejection because of the former mayor’s blunt comments.
“There were some mistakes made on this one,” said City Manager David Timmons about the failed Santa Maria Shipping LLC deal.
Ironically, Port and city officials met Wednesday morning about another sore spot between the two government agencies: Point Hudson.
“We met on improving relations and talking about how we can coordinate things better,” Timmons said.
“We vented a lot,” agreed Port of Port Townsend Executive Director Larry Crockett.
“But for the first time I think we’ve got some movement on Point Hudson planning.”
The talks center around $20,000 for shoreline land use planning grants from the state Department of Ecology.
