An Ohio-based parks consultant was chosen as the new manager of Fort Worden State Park on Wednesday.
Kate Burke of Greenville, Ohio, was selected from among six finalists for the job, Fort Worden officials said.
Burke is a principal in Leon Younger & PROS, a consulting firm in the conference and tourism industry.
She was previously the senior marketing manager for the Indianapolis Department of Parks and Recreation.
She is set to start the job in mid-October.
Current park manager Jim Farmer, who was held the job for the last 11 years, is scheduled to retire Oct. 31.
During the last eight years, the state has spent nearly $20 million on projects at Fort Worden.
Groundbreaking took place in July for a $6 million multipurpose dining hall, the largest single project in the state park system’s 2001-2003 capital budget.
