PORT TOWNSEND — The owner of three California-based Victorian hardware stores is still interested in building a 20,000-square-foot facility locally.
City officials released a statement late Friday saying Kenneth Kelly is not looking to relocate his businesses to any other city.
The release said Councilman Joe Finnie talked with Kelly on Thursday about his business plans.
“Mr. Kelly importantly stated he is still interested in locating here, and appreciated the call and the City Council support in this effort,” the statement said.
“He stated he will be working with his Realtor Shirley Rudolph to explore alternative sites.”
Kelly owns the Anglo-American Brass Co., American Home Supply and Vintage Hardware, all located in San Jose, Calif.
In December, the City Council turned down Kelly’s rezoning application.
The day after the vote, Port Angeles economic development officials said they would be interested in coaxing Kelly to their city.
And last Monday, Sequim Mayor Walt Schubert said his city would also welcome Kelly.
