Port Townsend: Maritime Center raises more than $50,000 at Wooden Boat Festival

PORT TOWNSEND — More than $50,000 was raised for the Northwest Maritime Center during the 2003 Wooden Boat Festival earlier this month.

Spokeswoman Shelly Randall said Friday that nearly 200 people donated to the Maritime Center project at the Sept. 5-7 festival centered on Point Hudson.

The donations were part of the organization’s “Pavers and Planks” campaign.

By donating $75 to $1,000 toward construction of the $10.1 million center, donors can have their family name or vessel name engraved on a paver or plank installed on the Maritime Center grounds, Randall said.

More than 1,000 donors have given $5.25 million to date, she said.
